Review a project before calling it finished

By SI100x · Published

A project can look complete while its empty and error states remain confusing. A final review should follow the experience of someone who does not know how the project was built.

Try this exercise

  1. Open the project from its starting page and follow the main task without using developer shortcuts. Try a valid input, an empty input and a value that is unusually long.
  2. Check the same flow on a narrow screen. Use the keyboard to reach links and buttons, and make sure the focus position is visible.
  3. Write down any state where the user cannot tell what happened or what to do next. Fix those problems before adding another decorative feature.

Check your result

You should be able to demonstrate the successful flow and an understandable failure state. Keep a short list of limitations alongside the project so an unfinished dependency is not mistaken for a completed feature.
