Compare AI outputs with a simple review rubric

By SI100x · Published

A rubric makes output review more consistent than choosing whichever answer feels most impressive. Start with a small set of qualities that matter to the task.

Try this exercise

  1. For an explanation task, consider correctness, relevance and clarity. Describe what acceptable behavior looks like for each quality using your own examples.
  2. Review two outputs against the same input without changing the criteria halfway through. Note concrete evidence for each judgment, including unsupported claims and missing steps.
  3. Use the results to decide the next experiment. A prompt that improves clarity but loses an essential detail needs further work rather than an automatic promotion.

Check your result

The rubric should connect to the task’s real purpose. A good score on a small practice set does not establish broad reliability, and different reviewers may need to discuss ambiguous cases.
