Debugging and testing
Write a bug report that another person can reproduce
By SI100x · Published
A precise bug report saves time by turning a complaint into an observable case. It should make the expected behavior and the actual result easy to compare.
Try this exercise
- Include the page or feature, account role and version under test. Use a short numbered sequence with the exact non-sensitive input that causes the issue.
- State the expected result and what happened instead. Add a screenshot or redacted error when it makes the difference clearer.
- Describe the scope you checked and what remains uncertain. Separate a confirmed failure from a suspected cause or a design preference.
Check your result
Another tester should be able to attempt the case without guessing missing steps. Avoid copying private records, tokens or credentials into the report; a reproducible isolated example is usually more useful.
