Debugging and testing
Review loading states with a slow connection
By SI100x · Published
Fast local responses can hide loading problems. A deliberate slow-response exercise reveals whether the user knows what is happening and whether the interface remains usable while work is pending.
Try this exercise
- Use a controlled local delay or an approved browser network setting. Start a normal read operation and observe the state before results arrive.
- Check that loading does not imply failure or display invented records. Keep relevant existing content visible when replacing it would unnecessarily disrupt the task.
- Let the operation finish, then test a controlled failure. Confirm that every loading indicator settles and that a useful recovery action appears when appropriate.
Check your result
The user should not be left with a spinner after the request has ended. Restore temporary network settings when the exercise is complete so later tests are not accidentally performed under different conditions.
